ST CLOUD, MN (January 20, 2020) –
Forgot to make a New Year’s resolution for 2020? January is National Mentoring Month and it’s the perfect time to resolve to give back to the community.
Local mentoring agency, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota, launched the “30 Bigs in 30 Days” campaign to coincide with National Mentoring Month. So far, they have piqued the interest of 22 individuals and are hoping to recruit 8 more by the end of the month.
Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Executive Director Jackie Johnson states, “January is a time to be reflective, and people think about upcoming goals and things they’d like to do so. For those of you who’ve always wanted to be a Big, or thought I should do that, we’re just nudging you a little more.”
Big is the term for a mentor, and a Little is a child who needs a mentor. Currently, there are over 100 children in Central Minnesota that are waiting for a Big Brother, Big Sister, Big Couple, or Big Family.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has a careful matching process that considers both the volunteer’s and child’s personalities, hobbies, and interests to ensure a compatible match is made. The program also offers ongoing support, guidance, and training to mentors.
